The Decompression Chamber

With Melissa and Rudi’s busy lifestyle, aromatic planting helps create an area of calm for them to come home to.

The Brief

Melissa and Rudi have incredibly high-pressure careers and a busy family life. With a minimal brief, I decided to design a front garden that felt like a decompression chamber, where they would brush through relaxing aromatic planting on their way to the front door.

The garden is south facing and was in need of a lot of soil improvement, and with the wind coming straight in off the seafront, all planting had to be very robust and wind tolerant.

The Result

The scent from this garden on a warm day is intoxicating. Over this garden’s lifespan, the planting has thrived and Melissa and Rudi are greeted with a floriferous outpouring.

“Heidi has magical green fingers. She has created two of the most beautiful spaces for us at the the front and back of our home.

“Her ability to really listen to a brief and fulfil it beyond expectations is amazing. Every time I look there is always something new popping up to make me smile.

“Heidi has created our garden so that every season there is interest and colour. We (and the local bee community) couldn’t be happier!”
