Fiveways Hideaway

With a courtyard garden that was very overlooked, Paul and Barbara longed for a private and secluded space.

The Brief

Paul and Barbara were very overlooked in their elevated courtyard garden. They wished to maximise the south-facing aspect and be able to relax and dine al fresco.

They had a blank canvas of a garden that they had cleared themselves and wanted a design that would stand the test of time.

Paul was a trained electrician so he took charge of the electrics and we took care of the hard and soft landscaping, with a brief for low-maintenance architectural planting.

The Result

We used Balau hardwood for the walls and benches, which is a really hard-wearing wood that weathers well. It has a really strong colour, so I chose to tone it down with muted planting. I also used a lot of structure in the planting, to prevent the walls and benches from dominating the space.

I also decided to utilise the sunny aspect with lots of evening scent to add to the ambience.

“We are absolutely delighted with our new garden. Heidi understood exactly what we wanted and how it would fit into our lifestyle.

“Her drawings really brought to life the vision of what our new garden would look like.”
