Here are some of the things I’m often asked. If you have a question that isn’t covered here, give me a call.
Q. How much will it cost?
Garden Designs start from £250 and planting plans from £150.
Q. Can you make sure it’s safe for my children to play outside?
Absolutely. Children’s gardens are my forte and we start by removing any poisonous plants and dangerous hazards.
Q. Will we need planning permission?
That depends on your plans for your space but generally, we can work within planning regulations.
Q. Can you design a night garden as we only use it after work?
Lighting can make or break a garden which is why I work with Alice. She keeps abreast of what is available on the market.
Q. We don’t get much sun, will anything grow?
It will. Not as fast but it will. My main areas to explore are whether you are on shade or dry shade. If its the latter then we may have to install irrigation but it’s still possible.
Q. We don’t have time to water plants, mow the lawn and weed borders, what do you suggest?
You have two options. We can design a low maintenance garden and return biannually to tidy it up or we can build a slightly softer garden and return to maintain more often.
Q. Can you make it look good all year round?
Yes. My own front garden is almost entirely a winter garden as that is the time that I need the lift. I am a passionate plantswoman for winter interest as there’s nothing better than a wander around your garden to discover a clump of snowdrops on a dank January day.
Q. Scent and sound is as important as how it looks, can you help?
My original training was in aromatherapy so I know the importance of scent for emotional wellbeing. Not to mention scent attracts wildlife.
Q. Can we grow fruit and veg as well as flowers?
You can. I am a great advocate of the Sarah Raven / Joy Larken approach of incorporating fruit and vegetables into planting plans.
Q. We want to keep to a colour palate that matches the house, is that possible?
It is a common and very effective design practice. It is important to keep succession within your planting as well as your chosen colour palate which I can also do.
Q. How can get more bees, butterflies and birds in the garden?
You can. The key is scent and colour.
Q. A big old tree’s blocking the light, can we cut it down?
I would need to check with the tree department that there are no Tree Preservation Orders on it and you don’t live in a conservation area. Provided there isn’t we can look at getting rid or certainly a considerable crown reduction.
