Talking Plants - Digging into the Detail

A two-day symposium of talks, debates and workshops for professional and amateur plants-people.

Last week, I travelled to Sheffield to listen to the plethora of experts talking about sustainability, growing and creating community at Talking Plants in Victoria Hall in Sheffield’s town centre.

Over my 20 years in horticulture, let me tell you I have been to many a symposium, but none of them had the heart that this did. It filled my cup like no other has.

Talking Plants is the passion project of Amy Langron, an LA and co-director of Hortus Collective based in Sheffield and Will Tomson, a garden designer and director of Creative Cultivations based in South Yorkshire. The original concept in 2022 was a meet up for gardeners around Sheffield to meet up and talk about plants. This has grown considerably and very quickly.

What became very apparent within minutes of arriving, is that this was not a symphonium about people's body of works, this was practical information, generously offered for us to use in our public spaces. And once you cultivate that then all the egos fall away and the love flows.

I am afraid I am going to bore you with all that I learned over the coming weeks but for now I just want to thank Amy and Will for making such an inclusive, beautiful space for us to come together, learn and be inspired.
